The American news channels are totally thwarting my attempt to keep an eye on the Gaza situation. Ha ha ha, oh America!
All the major news channels are showing year in review or NY Times Square. I am rebelling by watching the Atlanta Peach Drop. It's hosted by black people and the first performer is a country singer. Yeah, Georgia! Actually I may switch it back to the transvestite on CNN. Seriously, CNN has a transvestite in Key West who is being lowered in a giant shoe at midnight. (They're calling him/her Sushi or Shoe-She.) He/she is just a sideshow to Times Square of course. (Seriously though, is CNN trying to provide a liberal counterpoint to Fox News?)
Maya was here from 7 to 11, but then we were both getting really tired. I was telling her about the two times I was "out on the town" for New Years. There was that time in Izmir with Ale and her family. I enjoyed that. I felt alive and part of the city. I mostly remember Turks throwing plates and buzzing around on motor scooters. Heidelberg with Ali and Vanessa was not nearly as fun. Too crowded, too dangerous. (People waving bottles and lighting fireworks with their cigarettes, thank you.) I remember New Years on a Nile boat. I refused to celebrate and was in my room trying to sleep. Y2K in Morocco... I mostly remember watching different celebrations on CNN (International) all day as the year went around the world.
(I miss Ale. Maybe I will get Facebook and try to find her. Or I could try googling....) (Update: Nothing on Ale, but it looks like her brother went to MIT. Ohhhh!)
The peach is soon to go! See you next year!
